The Center for Public Integrity (CIP) was created in 2005 with the objective of contributing to the promotion of Transparency, Good Governance, and Integrity in Mozambique. CIP has association status and is governed by its statutes and other applicable legislation. CIP is a non-profit, non-partisan, independent entity with administrative, financial, and patrimonial autonomy. The organization was created by a heterogeneous group of Mozambicans interested in contributing to the deepening of democratic governance in the country. The group is composed of investigative journalists, academics, lawyers, and social scientists. In 2011, CIP was accredited or recognized as the Mozambique Chapter of Transparency International.
Vision
A society in which the State, the private sector, civil society, and citizens in general live free from corruption, in a fully democratic, inclusive, and functional State governed by the rule of law.
Mission
CIP's mission is to prevent corruption, promote the integrity and transparency of powers and institutions, the quality of government, and the rule of law, with a view to defending the public interest.
Values
CIP is governed by the values of transparency and integrity, responsibility and accountability, solidarity and courage, justice and equity, impartiality and independence, and the defense of democracy.
New Pillars
CIP's strategic priorities were streamlined into five priority intervention areas or "pillars," respectively: (i) transparency and integrity in politics; (ii) transparency and integrity in the public sector; (iii) justice and good governance; (iv) transparency and integrity in the private sector; and (v) environmental governance.
The main guiding principles of the CIP's actions are: integrity, transparency, corruption prevention and good governance. Acting in this way, the CIP has as its general objective the promotion and defense of integrity, transparency, ethics, not corruption and good governance in the public sphere in Mozambique.
CIP bodies comprise the General Assembly, the Executive Board, the Supervisory Board and the Counselor Group.
